Why use an array?

Possibly the most important benefit of using an array lies in the ability to:

Use another variable or an expression that evaluates to a numeric value as the index.

This makes it possible to:

• Iterate through the array elements in a controlled fashion, or
• Access a particular array element whose index is not determined until runtime.
